20 Quick Ways To Be More Productive
Let’s not beat around the bush here, life is busy. There is a lot to juggle and not enough time to do it in. Wouldn’t it be great to be more productive? Well, with these 20 quick tips you can be!
20 Quick Ways To Be More Productive
1: Just Say No
Learning to say no can be very liberating. So if it is something that causes stress and you don’t have to do it… say no.
2: Daily Plan
Make a plan for your day before it arrives. Have a rough idea of what you are going to do and when you have to do it. This will help prevent distractions. Accomplishing simple daily goals will keep you motivated to achieve again the next day. Get organised with a Planner or Diary
3: Know Your Times
Work out the time of that day that you are most efficient and use that to your advantage. Do your high priority tasks during this time.
4: Eat The Frog
You know that thing you are dreading doing? Eat the frog and make that your first priority. If you knock out your worst task first you won’t have to waste time thinking about it. You will create momentum with that sense of victory.
5: Stay Away From The Inbox
The worst thing you can do for your productivity is to check your emails first thing in the morning. It will put you on the back foot and cause you to be reactive instead of proactive. Schedule a time in the afternoon to check them instead.
6: It’s A Race
Give yourself a set amount of time to complete a task and then race against the clock. This method applies to small and large tasks. You can still set a time limit to knock a big chunk off a project.
Group similar tasks together and complete them all at the same time. You will save so much time by not switching tasks. Use this method for phone calls, emails, or errands.
8: Accept Help
If someone else can do a task, then let them do it. You don’t have to do everything yourself!
9: Make Quick Decisions
Once you have all of the information you need, make decisions in 60 seconds and stick to it. Don’t second guess or dwell on your choice.
10: Divide And Conquer
Divide big projects into smaller tasks and start ticking them off. Bite sized chunks are less imposing than standing at the foot of a massive project mountain.
11: Laser Focus
Concentrate on one task until it is done, then move onto the next. Asking your brain to switch between too many tasks at once wastes time as you need to refocus between each one.
12: Show Up Early
If you run late for one thing, chances are you will be running late all day. Try to be punctual, or show up 5 minutes early. Then you have a buffer to breathe, or to get a jump start on the next thing.
13: Don’t Rely On Habits
Just because you have always done something one way does not mean it is the best way. Constantly look to improve your patterns and processes for productivity.
14: Reward Yourself
Set yourself a target to complete, when you have reached that target, give yourself a little reward. If sticker charts work for the kids, why can’t they work for you too!
15: Let Things Go
If something is not serving you well and seems to be dying a natural death, don’t try and revive it. This includes friendships, work projects, or hobbies. Use your saved time on something that is actually worthwhile.
16: Be Positive
Negativity breeds distraction, wasted energy and bad moods. Align yourself with positive people that value you, and are good for you. Kick the negative ones to the curb.
Getting enough sleep will prepare you for the day ahead. Yawning and rubbing your eyes does not equal productivity!
18: Get Moving
Exercise will invigorate you and awaken your senses. Plus, it keeps you fit, healthy and ready to tackle the day.
19: Know The Outcome
Know what you want to achieve out of each task, meeting or event. If things start to veer off topic, then do your best to steer it back on course.
20: Take A Break
Down time is one of the best ways to be more productive. It sounds counterproductive to take a break when you are crazy busy. But having some time out will energise and refresh you, allowing you to tackle the next task at full capacity.
There is no secret that we all need to be more productive in the day. But with these quick and easy tips, hopefully you can start your journey to efficiency!
